Why we give back

When protection falls short, we step in.

Governments often fail to protect nature or put resources behind it. With technology expanding rapidly, we have to protect the balance of nature too. So we do our part and give back.

Restore forestsBring back habitats lost to fire, logging and farming.
Rebuild reefsGrow coral and return it to damaged reefs.
Balance the planetCarbon, water and soil kept healthy as technology grows.
Green stocks

The companies helping keep forests standing.

Forests are lost to fire, drought and clearing for fuel, mines and landfill. The Green list follows the companies whose main business takes that pressure off: clean power instead of coal and gas, electric transport, recycling instead of new extraction, greener buildings, and direct forest and wildlife work. Every one is screened by hand.

  • Less fuel burnedSolar, wind, nuclear and electric vehicles cut the emissions behind the droughts and wildfires that destroy forests.
  • Less land torn upRecycling and circular materials mean fewer new mines, quarries and landfills cut into wild land.
  • Direct protectionForests and wildlife companies work on reforestation, conservation and monitoring land from above.

The Eco Tracker

Every promise, kept or broken, on the record.

The Eco Tracker reads every green and blue company’s news, plus the climate laws that could move them, and files each event under one of six types. Turn alerts on for the ones you care about, and watch each company build its Impact Record.

Blue stocks

The companies protecting the water and the oceans.

Clean water and healthy seas don’t look after themselves. The Blue list follows the companies working on them: utilities that deliver and recycle water, treatment and purification, leak detection and water-saving products, power from waves and offshore wind, and the cleanup and recycling that keeps plastic out of the sea.

  • Cleaner waterTreatment and purification companies clean drinking water and wastewater before it reaches rivers and the sea.
  • Less water wastedLeak detection, smart meters and efficient fixtures save water that would otherwise be pumped and lost.
  • Healthier oceansOcean energy and cleanup companies power the coast without fuel and pull waste out of the water.

The real cost of the cloud

Technology should never cost us the planet.

Data centres power the apps, AI and markets we rely on, and their footprint is growing fast. Corporations chase growth and cheap power; the water, the grid and the climate absorb the bill. We think that is backwards, and we think consumers and investors deserve to see it clearly.

415 TWh

Electricity used by the world's data centres in 2024, about 1.5% of all power. The IEA expects it to more than double to ~945 TWh by 2030.

IEA, Energy and AI
~½

Data centres drive nearly half of US electricity demand growth to 2030.

IEA, Energy and AI
17 bn gal

Water directly consumed by US data centres in 2023. Berkeley Lab-based scenarios say that could double or quadruple by 2028.

Where we stand

Growth is not an excuse. Protecting nature should come before profit, which is why 15% of what STX+ earns goes to restoration, and why we build tools that show who is lobbying, buying influence and moving markets. Informed people hold powerful companies to account.
